Separation Agreements

A “Separation Agreement” is actually the Divorce Agreement and will govern your relationship, rights and obligations once you are divorce.   The document details the important matters regarding how the parties will act after the marriage is dissolved.  The issues incorporated within the Agreement include the custody of children, visits (known as “parenting time” in Massachusetts), child support, alimony, and division of marital assets such the house or retirement accounts.  Also included in the Separation Agreement is how the parties will pay outstanding debts.  Both parties must sign the Separation Agreement and appear before a judge to finalize the divorce.
